(1) Medical grade silicone rubber tube

Silicone rubber has anti-stick properties, physiological inertness, and anti-aging properties, so it can exist stably in sterilization heating and in biological liquids. Therefore, silicone rubber can be used as an important auxiliary material in medical rescue and treatment, including catheters, peritoneal dialysis tubes, medical seals, and intravenous cannulae.


(2) Silicone defoamers and agents

Silicone materials play an important role in the treatment of gastric diseases such as indigestion, gastric bleeding, and gastric ulcers. In the process of gastroscopy, the defoaming properties of silicone antifoams can be used to eliminate foam so that it does not hinder the inspection. Silicone defoamer can also be used in the rescue process of acute emphysema. It can quickly clear the respiratory tract, improve the hypoxia of patients, and reduce or avoid the situation that the foam obstructs the respiratory tract and causes the patient to suffocate and die. In addition, silicone antifoams can also relieve indigestion, relieve abdominal distension in hepatitis patients, and relieve cough symptoms.

3. Indwelling in the body as a carrier of drugs, long-term efficacy

Prolonging drug efficacy and improving drug action time by safe means is an important topic in the field of medicine and pharmacy. Silicone rubber capsules are widely used as research results. Silicone rubber can be used as a supply library for drugs such as antibiotics, vaccines, and anesthetics. 4. Drug-eluting implantable devices

One application where medical-grade silicones really shine in the medical industry is drug-eluting implantable devices. Before the molding process, silicones can be compounded with active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) such as cancer drugs or hormones which can then be steadily released into a targeted area of the patient’s body over time once that molded implant is inserted.

Drug-eluting implants are able to maintain the desired level of the API in the patient much more consistently and over a longer period of time than both pills and injections. Also, since the implant can usually be inserted near the targeted organ or tissue, lower total amounts of API are needed because that API doesn’t need to spread throughout the entire body before reaching the targeted area.


As a result, the level of the API in the patient’s body remains inside the therapeutic window (the broad range of concentrations between too low to be effective and high enough to be toxic) for a much longer duration.


As we’ll see shortly, medical-grade LSR is a great material for making drug-eluting implants, due to its processing advantages.

Silicone Dental

Silicone medical grade materials are widely used in the field of dental impression materials due to their excellent properties. Among them, addition silicone rubber is the most widely used in dental impression materials.


Silicone dental impression material base polymer is vinyl polysiloxane-vinyl silicone oil, and its cross-linking agent is hydrogen-containing silicone oil, such as XJY silicone's XJY-702 series of low-hydrogen silicone oil, XJY-711 end Hydrogen-containing methyl hydrogen siloxane and dimethyl hydrogen siloxane copolymer are all cross-linking agents that can be practically used in the application of silicone dental impression materials. The catalyst is the platinum catalyst, etc., and vinyl MQ is also used. Silicone resin is the application direction of advanced performance improvement.


Vinyl MQ silicone resin is mainly used as an extension of the main vinyl polysiloxane. The three-dimensional resin provides additional mechanical properties and reinforcing structures in addition to the main long-chain vinyl polysiloxane. XJY- 8206 vinyl resin is a mature vinyl MQ silicone resin, which can be used as a good choice. White carbon black is also one of the reinforcing agents for silicone dental impression materials. It has a good reinforcement effect on the system. However, it has a great influence on the viscosity of the rubber compound, so it needs to be used together with vinyl MQ silicone resin, which has a relatively weak reinforcing effect but has little influence on the viscosity. At the same time, attention should be paid to the dosage of the two, too much or too little can not obtain the ideal material properties. Adding a certain amount of vinyl MQ silicone resin can increase the tear strength, hardness and tensile strength of the system, but adding too much will reduce the elasticity of the system, and excessive crosslinking will lead to a decrease in tear resistance and tensile strength. The main purpose of adding VMQ silicone resin to the oral impression material of the system is not to improve the strength and elasticity, but to improve the hardness of the vulcanizate without significantly affecting the viscosity. Choose the amount that will give you a lower viscosity compound.


After the host material and the cross-linking agent are mixed, the addition reaction occurs between the vinyl group of vinyl polysiloxane and the silicon-hydrogen bond of the hydrogen-containing silicone oil activated by the catalyst. There is no side effect, the reaction time is relatively short, and the size is good. Accuracy and dimensional stability. At the same time, the network polymer formed by crosslinking has stable properties, and the structure can move flexibly under force, so the material has good mechanical properties and ductility.

How long does MQ resin last?
