From a physiological point of view, silicone materials are one of the most inactive compounds currently known and possess physiological inertness and flame retardancy that other compounds do not possess. Liquid silicone rubber and high-consistency rubber are extremely versatile, supporting applications throughout the biological, microbiological, and medical industries.
When the correct cure system—including cross-linking and catalyst—is used for the elastomer, fully vulcanized silicone rubber is odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, highly resistant to biological aging, and provides excellent biocompatibility. Skin contact usually leads to only a minimal response. It is essentially harmless to humans, presents no significant environmental risk, and shows excellent physiological inertness.

(1) Medical-grade silicone rubber tube:

A key area for medical-grade silicone production is drug-eluting implantable devices. Before molding, medical silicone compounds can be blended with active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), such as cancer medication or hormones. After the molded implant is surgically inserted, the silicone gradually releases the API into the body over time. |
These long-term implantable devices maintain the targeted API levels more consistently and for a longer period than pills and injections. Devices can be inserted directly near the targeted organ or tissue, requiring less API and improving therapeutic precision.
By keeping the API inside the therapeutic window—between ineffective doses and toxic side effects—for longer, silicone-based drug-eluting implants improve both patient safety and treatment outcomes. Medical-grade LSR (Liquid Silicone Rubber) is favored for these uses, due to processing advantages and suitability for highly controlled release.
Medical-grade silicone materials play a major role in dental impression materials because of their superior properties. Among these, addition-cured silicone rubber—often using a peroxide-cured or platinum-cured system—is the most widely used option for producing dental impressions.
Silicone dental impression material base polymer is vinyl polysiloxane-vinyl silicone oil, and its cross-linking agent is hydrogen-containing silicone oil, such as XJY silicone's XJY-702 series of low-hydrogen silicone oil, XJY-711 end Hydrogen-containing methyl hydrogen siloxane and dimethyl hydrogen siloxane copolymer are all cross-linking agents that can be practically used in the application of silicone dental impression materials. The catalyst is the platinum catalyst, etc., and vinyl MQ is also used. Silicone resin is the application direction of advanced performance improvement.
Vinyl MQ silicone resin is mainly used as an extension of the main vinyl polysiloxane. The three-dimensional resin provides additional mechanical properties and reinforcing structures in addition to the main long-chain vinyl polysiloxane. XJY- 8206 vinyl resin is a mature vinyl MQ silicone resin, which can be used as a good choice. White carbon black is also one of the reinforcing agents for silicone dental impression materials. It has a good reinforcement effect on the system. However, it has a great influence on the viscosity of the rubber compound, so it needs to be used together with vinyl MQ silicone resin, which has a relatively weak reinforcing effect but has little influence on the viscosity. At the same time, attention should be paid to the dosage of the two; too much or too little can not obtain the ideal material properties. Adding a certain amount of vinyl MQ silicone resin can increase the tear strength, hardness, and tensile strength of the system, but adding too much will reduce the elasticity of the system, and excessive crosslinking will lead to a decrease in tear resistance and tensile strength. The main purpose of adding VMQ silicone resin to the oral impression material of the system is not to improve the strength and elasticity, but to improve the hardness of the vulcanizate without significantly affecting the viscosity. Choose the amount that will give you a lower viscosity compound.
After the host material and the cross-linking agent are mixed, the addition reaction occurs between the vinyl group of vinyl polysiloxane and the silicon-hydrogen bond of the hydrogen-containing silicone oil activated by the catalyst. There is no side effect, the reaction time is relatively short, and the size is good. Accuracy and dimensional stability. At the same time, the network polymer formed by crosslinking has stable properties, and the structure can move flexibly under force, so the material has good mechanical properties and ductility.
